Do you know the name of the song?

damianos1122 on 26 July, 2010 at 8:38 am #

I love the way Piper communicates his point about the prosperity “gospel” by the way what is the background song?

mooncatch on 29 July, 2010 at 10:55 am #

Hay dude I like to live high on the hog man, and I want to live in the paridisie you know palm tree and sand and ocean and pretty things. Thats what the prosperity gospel promises what does your gospel have. poverty and being cursed upon this earth. I watch christian tv and they have a gospel of money and easy living. So what makes your more true then theirs Dude.

mooncatch on 30 July, 2010 at 6:04 am #

All in all, the biggest issue I have with this is that Piper said Jesus looks most beautiful when your little girl flies through the windshield and you say “God is enough” - God is ALWAYS enough and Jesus is ALWAYS beautiful - if someone never went through hardships it wouldn’t change that truth. How are we most satisfied with God in the midst of loss, not prosperity? It’s a half truth; our hearts desire as Christians should ALWAYS be satisfied with Him.
He should’ve said “loss and prosperity”

mumpty on 1 August, 2010 at 10:47 am #

Not at all. I look at the prosperity I have right now (3 healthy children, safe house, good wife, steady job etc) I have all these things and I am enormously humbled by God’s grace & mercy on my life. But Dr Piper’s video is focusing on the fact that ANYONE can praise God in the good times, but true faith is tested with fire & trials (1Peter1, James 1), and through horrid suffering we still say “Thou he slay me yet will I trust him”. Christianity today is “soldiers on parade”, not in combat.Thnx

oh man, this is so true and so real! God bless this man and his message. He is the only honest one we have and, I don’t even know who he is…

I tell you what, I have seen this video twice and each time I felt like I was being convicted. You know what I mean.

Hear the truth about tithing and sowing and reaping in true context. search Bertie Brits on google

mrdanface on 7 August, 2010 at 4:20 pm #

piper really has just as polarized of a message as the health and wealth gospel, though i wouldn’t say its as destructive.

NameBrandClique on 10 August, 2010 at 8:45 am #

Is it impossible to genuinely praise God when you have a new car? Or does truly praising God require a tragedy?

I recall Paul writing “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.” That’s Phil 4:12 ; was Paul’s praise of God during prosperity disingenouous?

mumpty on 11 August, 2010 at 5:05 pm #

It’s so easy to praise God when you have a new car in the garage! It’s hard when they are pulling your dead wife out of the wreckage tho - THAT is when you really can say `God is good`. That is the point of Dr Piper’s message here.Tnhx

mumpty on 11 August, 2010 at 6:23 pm #

Feel both hatred for them and compassion for them… hard huh? as we only seem to be able to do one or the other. God does both at the same time in perfect balance.

NameBrandClique on 12 August, 2010 at 10:10 am #

I think it’s ridiculous that Piper says God is most glorified in our tragedies. God should be glorified with our highest of intentions whether or not we’re prospering or deep in tragedy. God’s mercy, grace, glory, and beauty shine and should shine through every prosperity and every tragedy, not just parts of what we go through.

When God allows you to be smacked around, praise Him. When He allows you to be prosperous, praise Him.

mrdanface on 14 August, 2010 at 4:19 pm #

pretty good, except for the whole hatred part.

aren’t we supposed to feel terrible for the people preaching the garbage? They must have awful lives.

great video, piper is ********!

neothomist1275 on 25 August, 2010 at 3:29 am #

“Liberalism, Protestantism, Judaism, positivism all have the same ultimate aim. It is prosperity, or as Lutheran theologians put it, union with God at our level, not at God’s level. The thing all these schools detest is the ideal of union with God at God’s level, proper to asceticism, mysticism, Platonism and pure intelligence, which insist on seeing things under the form of truth and eternity.” — George Santayana

Actually, John Piper clearly calls himself a calvinist. I have nothing wrong with that, and I have nothing wrong with this message, and I love John Piper, but you might want to watch “Why are Calvinists so Negative? (John Piper).”

countrygirl2240 on 30 August, 2010 at 1:25 am #

people always get this backwards, they say “oh, piper says this, but he is a calvinist, so he’s contradicting himself.”

In reality it is the other way around. THIS is what John Piper believes (believe me, i go to his church)! Calvinist is a tag that people have put on John Piper when in fact, Piper wont refer to himself as a calvinist. People should look at his message rather than the tag!
